Positioned proudly on Stand 50, three unmistakably bold 6×4 prime movers mark Scania’s dramatic re-entry – machines that speak volumes of the Swedish marque’s engineering prowess, its unrelenting push for innovation, and its real-world approach to decarbonising road transport in Australia.
The King Reigns Again
Front and centre is the new ‘King of the Road’ – the imposing Scania 770 S. This isn’t just a showpiece; it’s a flat-floor fortress on wheels. Under the skin is a 16.4-litre V8 beast pushing out a mighty 770 horsepower – the most powerful engine in Scania’s stable. The cab? It’s the largest ever offered in the S-series, with a high roof and extended length, giving long-haul drivers the room and comfort once reserved for luxury RVs.
Bathed in the glow of a crimson backdrop, it stands as a testament to big horsepower and even bigger thinking.
A SUPER-Six & Urban Muscle
Flanking the V8 monarch is the Scania 560 G – powered by the newly-developed six-cylinder DOHC SUPER engine, which dishes out a class-leading 560 hp and 2800 Nm of torque. Designed for operators who demand performance and efficiency in equal measure, the 560 G is already turning heads.
And for operators chasing urban agility without compromising on grunt, there’s the Scania 500 P – now boasting the most powerful engine ever offered in the low-entry P-series cab. It’s Scania’s answer to the high-performance urban delivery rig.
A New Home Base
Matching the machinery is a brand-new, state-of-the-art Scania stand – complete with customer lounges and dedicated spaces to explore Scania’s full suite of services. An Electric Arrival… Almost
But not everything made it to the Brisbane floor. Caught just offshore near Fremantle is what was to be Scania’s headline act – the Scania 40 G BEV. This all-electric prime mover was custom-spec’d for Australian conditions, and poised to usher in Scania’s expanded Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) program.
Powered by a 416 kWh battery and a cutting-edge 400 kW electric motor with a four-speed integrated gearbox, the 40 G promises practical payloads and ranges that make real-world sense for Australian hauliers. Though its absence from the show is a blow, Scania promises private viewings for interested operators the moment it hits dry land.
Beyond Electric – The Biodiesel Advantage
But perhaps the most grounded insight comes not from the trucks, but from the words of Scania Australia Managing Director, Manfred Streit.
“Yes, we’re pushing ahead with BEVs,” Manfred says, “but the charging ecosystem here still needs time to catch up. In the meantime, we can make an 80% CO₂ reduction right now by switching to B100 biodiesel or HVO fuels – and we’ve already got thousands of Scania trucks on Australian roads ready to run on it.”
It’s a pragmatic vision: one that acknowledges the slow burn of EV infrastructure while leveraging what’s already available to slash emissions today – without compromising range, payload or economic viability.
