IVECO is ready to run on renewable diesel
IVECO has confirmed that compatibility with renewable diesel is now available across all of its Australian vehicle ranges and on almost all models, backed by full warranty support.
The IVECO Daily range now offers compatibility with HVO renewable diesel on models fitted with the 3.0-litre 180EVID engine.
For operators looking to reduce emissions without waiting for the electric-vehicle fairy to arrive with a magic wand, renewable diesel offers a practical step in the right direction. It keeps the familiar diesel driveline, the same refuelling habits and the same workday expectations, but with the potential for a much cleaner emissions profile.
HVO, Renewable Diesel
Also known as Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil, or HVO, renewable diesel is produced from waste sources such as vegetable oils and animal fats. These feedstocks are hydrotreated with hydrogen and catalysts at high temperatures and pressures, producing a fuel with chemical properties similar to those of conventional diesel.
That similarity is important. In compatible engines, HVO can be used as a 100 per cent replacement for mineral diesel, without requiring major vehicle changes. It is not a science experiment bolted to the side of a truck with hope and cable ties. It is a drop-in fuel solution for operators who need their vehicles to keep earning money.
The benefits include significantly reduced lifecycle CO2 emissions, along with lower methane and NOx output, making HVO an attractive interim option for fleets working toward lower-carbon transport while zero-emission technologies continue to develop.

IVECO’s medium and heavy-duty truck engines have been HVO-compatible for several years. More recently, the Daily Van and Cab Chassis range fitted with the popular FIC 3.0-litre 180EVID engine has also transitioned to HVO compatibility.
IVECO Trucks Australia Head of Product and Customer Innovation Centre, Andrew Winbanks, said the broader compatibility was positive news for fleet operators.
“The use of HVO in compatible IVECO vehicles will not negatively impact engine life, service intervals, durability or performance; nor will the fuel affect after-treatment systems, and warranties remain unchanged,” Andrew explained.
Increase Supply
“While availability of HVO is currently limited and predominantly accessed through bulk commercial arrangements, leading industry players such as Viva Energy are looking to increase supply through additional importation and more local processing.”
For transport operators, that is the key point. HVO gives fleets another pathway to reduce emissions without compromising the core job of the vehicle.
While supply remains limited, the ability to run compatible IVECO vehicles on renewable diesel gives operators an option that is immediately familiar, technically supported and backed by warranty.
