At first glance, an Elphinstone Traverse Sled might appear deceptively simple – a tough frame mounted atop heavy-duty skis, capable of bearing a payload across hundreds of kilometres of snow and ice. Each sled is purpose-built to carry medium to heavy payloads in either standard 10ft, 20ft, or 40ft ISO containers or configured as flat decks ranging from 6 to 15 metres in length and 2.6 to 3.2 metres in width. More importantly, they’re designed to connect in a modular train configuration, allowing multiple sleds of supplies, fuel, and scientific equipment to be hauled efficiently and safely deep into the Antarctic interior.
