In the heart of Sydney’s bustling construction and infrastructure landscape, the Eather Group is proving that heavy haulage and sustainability can go hand in hand. With the strategic addition of a new Euro 6-compliant Mercedes-Benz Actros 2658 to its growing fleet, this family-owned business is accelerating toward its green transport future—without compromising on performance, safety, or comfort.
Founded in 2010 by husband-and-wife team Peter and Sally-ann Eather, the Eather Group has grown into a prominent force in haulage, bulk material management, land rehabilitation, and large-scale infrastructure works. With over 40 employees and more than 20 trucks, the company has built its reputation on grit, innovation, and a firm commitment to doing things better—especially when it comes to sustainability.
The Green Transport Plan: Turning Intent Into Action
The rollout of the Mercedes-Benz Actros 2658 marks the first milestone in Eather Group’s Green Transport Plan. The plan is a practical, forward-looking approach to environmental responsibility, aimed at reducing emissions and improving fuel efficiency across the fleet.
“We are always looking at what we can do better, especially from a sustainability perspective,” explains Divinia Eather, the group’s Marketing Manager. “We’re not ready for electric trucks just yet, but adopting Euro 6 emissions standards is something we can do right now—and it makes a big difference.”
Unlike the older conventional trucks in the fleet, the Euro 6 Actros features a 16-litre six-cylinder engine paired with a 12-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT), delivering powerful yet clean and efficient performance. According to operational data, the Actros is currently achieving the best fuel economy in the fleet—a testament to its engineering and environmental design.
Raising the Bar for Fleet Safety
Sustainability at Eather Group goes beyond emissions—it also includes safety, particularly as the company regularly works on major government infrastructure projects that demand stringent compliance.
The Actros 2658 fits seamlessly into this safety-first ethos, arriving factory-equipped with a comprehensive suite of active safety technologies. These include advanced driver assistance systems, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and pedestrian detection—essential features for both compliance and care.
“Safety is really important to us, so the safety tech built into the truck is really next level,” says Divinia. “And the fact that the Actros is so comfortable and quiet also means that the driver is less fatigued—that’s important too.”
Driver-Endorsed: Performance Meets Comfort
For veteran driver Rob Matuszewski, who previously favored another truck brand, the transition to the Actros has been a revelation.
“After a day in the Actros he said: ‘Don’t put me back in the other truck—I’m staying in this one,’” laughs Divinia. “Rob said the work takes much less of a toll on him in the Actros than the other trucks.”
It’s that combination of comfort, refinement, and reduced driver fatigue that underscores the Actros’ appeal—not only to fleet managers focused on efficiency and uptime, but to the people behind the wheel day in and day out.

Building a Diverse and Empowered Workforce
Beyond technology and transport, Eather Group is also setting benchmarks in social sustainability. The company prides itself on creating opportunities for individuals often underrepresented in the industry.
“Our team has always been diverse because we give people a go,” says Divinia. “The industry average is 13 per cent female—with just two per cent actually on the tools. In our business, 36 per cent of staff are female, including four female drivers and three female machine operators.”
Additionally, 28 per cent of the Eather Group workforce is actively engaged in on-the-job learning and upskilling—fostering a culture of growth, empowerment, and inclusion.
As the industry races toward a more sustainable and equitable future, the Eather Group’s early adoption of the Euro 6 Mercedes-Benz Actros shows what’s possible when innovation, values, and practicality align. It’s not just a truck—it’s a signal of the company’s intent to lead from the front, one clean, safe, and efficient journey at a time.
