Are CAT’s about to star Downunder again?

If rumors buzzing around the traps are to be believed, devout Caterpillar fans could see a limited number of 4900 Western Star’s purring along our highways in the not too distant future.

These limited edition CAT series units are said to be fully customizable with engine power outputs from the proven CAT ACERT engine starting at 550 HP through to a bitumen buckling 750HP thanks to the addition of the Pittsburgh Power box. While warranty on the US brochures is listed at 4-years/unlimited mileage there is no indication if this will be the situation in Australia.

Availability is said to be by pre-order only. There is some hearsay that there will be a rush on the pre-orders so customers don’t miss out as was the case when Kenworth released their limited edition Legend 950 in 2015.

While we haven’t been able to confirm how this marriage of an old favorite power plant in the new 4900 has been brokered. We can only speculate that the units will roll out of Western Star’s Portland Oregon factory in a rolling glider kit form and taken to popular specialist glider kit finishers.

Some of the better-known glider kit builders include Cleveland Brothers and Fitzgerald Glider Kits, both are renowned for their quality work and regulars on the custom truck show circuit.

We will bring more details as they become available.
